The Special Education Plan Review Standards established by the Ministry of Education in 2000 are designed to provide school boards with an opportunity to examine the current delivery of programs and services for students with special education needs. The special education plan was developed in collaboration with our Special Education Advisory Committee, members of our Special Education Services team, teachers, school administrators, educational support staff, parents and representatives of community agencies.
The Board is very pleased to present the 2015 Special Education Review of Programs and Services to the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), the Board of Trustees and the Ministry of Education. We believe this report reflects a strong commitment to the provision of quality programs and services in special education. The range of programs and services provided by the Greater Essex County District School Board respects the wishes of parents, responds to the needs of many different exceptionalities and stresses the early identification of students at risk.
Goals for the current school year will continue to stress early identification of students at risk, prevention programs such as anti-bullying initiatives and social skills development, refinement of the IEP and transition planning process, staff development in all areas of special education especially the application of technology and software to accommodate the learning needs of exceptional students.
