Speech-Language Pathology Services staff, as part of the Special Education Services team, is committed to providing professional services in partnership with administration, teaching staff, support staff, parents and community resources to enhance student learning, growth, and development.                                                                                                                                                                               
The range of services provided by Speech Language Pathology Services includes the following:
Classroom Consultation / Programming Recommendations
Consultation and collaboration with school personnel, parents, students, community agencies and support staff to assist students experiencing difficulties in the areas of language, speech sound production, social skills, voice and/or resonance and fluency/stuttering. Speech-Language Pathology Services personnel also provide parents and school staff with information regarding a student’s communication profile and discuss methods for assisting students to succeed in the classroom.  Determinations are also made through discussion with school personnel and parents whether a referral to Speech-Language Pathology Services for a formal assessment, further consultation and/or intervention is warranted.
Assessment of Communication Abilities
Assessment of a student includes pre-assessment discussion with parents and school staff, observation of the child in the classroom setting, a review of the student’s school records/history, and formal testing utilizing standardized and informal measures of communication skills.  Additional assessment information regarding communication development may be obtained from parents and teachers through interviews and questionnaires/checklists.
Parent Information / Home Programming Recommendations
Ongoing Consultation and/or Intervention, provided by Speech-Language Pathology Services staff, includes ongoing discussion with school personnel, observation in the classroom and individual/group therapy.  Speech-Language Pathologists provide school staff and parents with strategies to facilitate communication development.  Therapy provides the student with direct instruction in specific areas of speech and language development. 

Individual or Group Intervention

Professional Development is provided to teachers, support staff, and/or parents on a variety of topics including: oral language development, phonemic awareness, speech-sound production, social use of language, visual supports and strategies for promoting communication skills.
