The Greater Essex County District School Board is extremely pleased to be the only school board in Ontario to receive a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development Employment and Infrastructure to offer a Student Ventures program in 2015.
The Strategic Community Entrepreneurship Program will allow GECDSB secondary school students to get access to training, resources and money to help start their own business.
Students begin with a concept, write a business plan, develop a customer service strategy and accounting principles. They then receive training from a group of business teachers and teacher-consultants. Throughout the operation of their business the students also get assistance from mentors, who run similar businesses in the community.
Besides the experience and hopefully profit, successful students will earn co-op credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
At this time, there are 42 approved student businesses. Students aged 15-29 who are interested in starting a business can contact Lauren Segedin for more details at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 519-255-3200 ext. 10333.
