At the Greater Essex County District School Board, an effective grade 8 to 9 transition plan has been developed to support the individual needs of students as they move from elementary school to secondary school.
Electronic individual student profiles are developed that highlight the strengths, needs, and interests of each student. Schools then use this data to develop timetables for grade 9 students, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of in risk learners.
Caring adults, who are school staff members, are aligned with students to assist them according to their individual needs. Finally, the GECDSB is committed to continuously monitoring the effectiveness of students’ transition plans and adjusting them to best meet the needs of each student.
