One of the primary goals of the Catalysts is to connect with all staff within our family of schools to collect innovative ideas, challenges, and solutions so that we can communicate the most pressing challenges/promising ideas directly to Senior Administration. Under the mentorship of We-tech Alliance, our team of catalysts will work to build solutions around those ideas and/or challenges so that together we can bring positive and productive change to the GECDSB.
As part of the program, we have been given release days to attend schools within our family of schools and connect with staff. The purpose of the visits will be to listen to the 'voice' of all of our front-line staff with regards to our most pressing challenges as well as promising ideas that you may have. Then we will be taking these ideas and challenges back to our fellow catalysts to try to build solutions. Our hope is that by the end of the school year, we will be able to implement real change to one or more of these challenges, and find a reasonable solution that works in the real world. We can't wait to speak with you and hear your ideas!
My name is Céleste Kurcz and I am representing the Tecumseh Vista family of schools. I am currently teaching Kindergarten and in my tenth year of teaching. I applied to be an Innovative Catalyst because I believe in the importance of change. I love to hear peoples stories to better understand where they are coming from. I enjoy being creative and collaborating with my peers. I like to take risks and ask the right kind of questions to help me seek what I am trying to better understand. I look forward to hearing your ideas and concerns on how we can make important change.
Belle River Public
My name is Erika Harrison and I am a grade 8 French Immersion teacher at Belle River Public representing the Belle River family of schools.
I applied to be an Innovation Catalyst because I believe strongly in bringing people's experiences and expertise together to effect positive change and make peoples demanding lives a little easier. I am looking forward to getting out into the community to learn alongside others and make positive changes wherever possible.
Long Term and Occasional Teachers
My name is Kristen Kenno, I am presenting Long Term and Occasional Teachers with the school board. I am grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with a group of GECDSB staff members and affect positive change within the diversity of our school board. Being an Innovation Catalyst creates the possibility of producing something that would shift teacher, student and family mindsets to aid in developing the next generation of learners. I am excited about the opportunity of being part of the Innovation Catalyst team. I look forward to discussing your ideas.
Early Years/Primary Tier 3 Support Worker
Special Education Department
Hi! I am Lauren Sabourin. I am a part of the Special Education Department as the Early Years/Primary Tier 3 Support Worker. My role works alongside classroom teams by providing support for students with challenging behaviours. Most days, you can find me in an Early Years classroom building capacity around Applied Behaviour Analysis and Structured Learning Environments.
When the opportunity presented itself, I wanted to be a part of the Catalyst team because I saw it as an opportunity to help impact meaningful change as well as celebrate the great things that we do at GECDSB. I am looking forward to working together with the Innovation Catalyst team as a part of this inaugural process!
General Brock Public School
I wanted to become a catalyst to collaborate with other professionals, spread good ideas and act on those good ideas.
