Building Tomorrow Together Every Learner, Every Day
September Student of the Month

The Student of the Month for September is Remy Allison, a Grade 10 student at Tecumseh Vista Academy. Remy is a bold and driven leader who makes a positive impact within her school and the greater Windsor-Essex Community.

Remy consistently demonstrates her dedication towards helping the community. At the age of 10, she travelled to Africa to build a school for girls in Kenya. Ten years ago, Remy started a Terry Fox Lemonade Stand and donates the funds towards cancer research. She has been a member of the Town of Tecumseh’s Terry Fox Committee since 2014 and has raised over $45,000.  She also participated in the Hats for Homeless Project by knitting hats for Street Help in 2017.

The ability for youth to inspire change is something for which Remy consistently advocates. Remy authored a cookbook for Downtown Mission in 2013 and has donated over $1,000 for her “Be the Change” bracelet project. She delivered a speech at a “We Day” event explaining how kids are never too young to make a difference. She is the past chair of the Windsor Essex Community Foundation’s Youth Board and she is currently the President their “Young Philanthropists”, a group of highly motivated youth who are passionate about volunteerism, community building, and making change in Windsor-Essex.

Given her outstanding commitment and leadership in the community, Remy was recently selected to be one of the “40 Leaders Under 40” by Leadership Windsor-Essex.  These awards recognize civic- minded community leaders who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Windsor-Essex County by selflessly undertaking goodwill activities or providing community service for the betterment of the Windsor-Essex region. The recipients are featured in the March, 2018 issue of BizX Magazine.

Congratulations Remy for being selected by Student Senate as Student of the Month for September.
