of the Month for September is Remy Allison, a Grade 10 student at Tecumseh
Vista Academy. Remy is a bold and driven leader who makes a
positive impact within her school and the greater Windsor-Essex Community.
consistently demonstrates her dedication towards helping the community. At the
age of 10, she travelled to Africa to build a school for girls in Kenya. Ten
years ago, Remy started a Terry Fox Lemonade Stand and donates the funds
towards cancer research. She has been a member of the Town of Tecumseh’s Terry
Fox Committee since 2014 and has raised over $45,000. She also
participated in the Hats for Homeless Project by knitting hats for Street Help
for youth to inspire change is something for which Remy consistently advocates.
Remy authored a cookbook for Downtown Mission in 2013 and has donated over
$1,000 for her “Be the Change” bracelet project. She delivered a speech at a “We Day” event explaining
how kids are never too young to make a difference. She is the past chair of the
Windsor Essex Community Foundation’s Youth Board and she is currently the
President their “Young Philanthropists”, a group of highly motivated
youth who are passionate about volunteerism, community building, and making
change in Windsor-Essex.
outstanding commitment and leadership in the community, Remy was recently
selected to be one of the “40 Leaders Under 40” by Leadership
Windsor-Essex. These awards recognize civic- minded community
leaders who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Windsor-Essex
County by selflessly undertaking goodwill activities or providing community
service for the betterment of the Windsor-Essex region. The recipients are
featured in the March, 2018 issue of BizX Magazine.
