The Student of the Month for January is Emma McDonald, a
Grade 11 student at Walkerville Collegiate Institute.
Emma is a hardworking student who has been on Walkerville’s
honour roll for the past two years. She has a keen interest in science
was selected to attend a neuroscience program at McGill University’s Summer
Academy where she was one of the few Canadians in the class of students from
around the world.
Emma has many talents in the arts and has been involved in
over 40 community theatre productions. She was a member of the Michigan
Opera Theatre’s Children’s Opera Chorus for three years. She has won many
different vocal, piano and speech arts awards for her work. A student of the
Royal Conservatory of Music, Emma achieved honours in her Grade 7 vocal exam.
Most impressively, she had the tremendous honour of singing at Carnegie
Hall in New York City last May.
Emma is fully bilingual and is a former W.E. Care for Kids
spokesperson. On top of balancing school and many extracurricular activities,
Emma has a part time job as a babysitter and dog walker. She has accumulated
almost 1,000 volunteer hours in her time at Walkerville Collegiate.
