The GECDSB is pleased to offer another layer of support to students and families in the Greater Essex Virtual School (GEVS). We will be piloting a Homework Help after school program, beginning on Monday, November 16th, 2020. The Homework Help pilot project will run until Tuesday, December 15th. Online support will be available each weekday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 Monday to Thursday. Students who require support or assistance with their homework can request help by clicking the link below:

Dear Virtual School Families,As you know our Board recently provided families with the opportunity to request a change of model for their children. Here is a summary of the results:996 students will be moving from the Virtual School back to their Home School.883 students will be moving from the correspondence program back to their Home School.294 students will be moving from their home school to virtual learning.204 students will be moving from correspondence to virtual learning.505 students will be moving to correspondence learning from either home or virtual schoolIn total, 2882 elementary school students in our system will be changing models on November 9th. 1879 of these students will be returning to their home school.Given the number of students who are changing models, it will be necessary to reorganize some staff and classes prior to the start of our next term. These changes will take effect on November 9th, 2020. The purpose of this correspondence is to let you know what to expect during the two weeks leading up to November 9th and to ensure that you are aware of how these changes may impact your child.On November 9th, 20201. Some students will be assigned to new teachers. Although efforts will be made to minimize disruption, some variables are outside of our control. These include the number of students in each class who are moving, the seniority, qualifications and preference of the teacher and the needs of our system. 2. Some students will be assigned to new classes. In order to maintain consistent staffing levels, some classes will be collapsed and students moved into other spaces which have been left vacant by students who have returned to their home school.If changes impact on your child’s class/teacher, you will be informed through Edsby. Once all staff and class organization has been completed, a message will be sent to everyone indicating that all changes have been made.While we are pleased to accommodate the requests of our families, we also know that change can be difficult. For this reason, we wanted to provide you with as much notice as possible prior to the changes these changes taking place.
