Welcome to the Greater Essex Virtual School! gevs logo.png

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions:

What does the school day look like for the Virtual School? School begins on September 7thClasses begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:10 pm. Students have a 30-minute nutrition break at 10:40 am and a 40-minute nutrition break at 12:50 pm.

Your child will log into the Microsoft Teams application a few minutes before 9:00 am and click on their class Team. The class team will be visible to your child after Friday September 3rd. There will be a scheduled class meeting for them to join. Most days the students will wait in a ‘virtual lobby’ until the teacher can admit them to the class meeting.

What does my child need to join their virtual classroom? Your child will need an internet connection and a device capable of running the Microsoft Teams application (not the web version). It should have a working camera and microphone to fully participate in their online lessons. If you do not have a device capable of running Microsoft Teams, please the call the school at (519) 987-6066 to request a device from the GECDSB.

Alternatively, if you wish to purchase your own device, you can click on this link to review the Student Device Purchase Optionwhich offers discounts for the types of products used within the board.

How can I learn more about the online programs my child will be using to learn? Our school is offering a series of learning sessions for parents and guardians. Please scroll down to find links to the upcoming sessions.

What if my board provided device is not workingYou may email technologysupport@publicboard.ca to setup a time to bring your board device in to be checked by the IT department. Please ensure your child charges their device and can log in to their Microsoft and Edsby accounts before school begins on the 7th.

How will I find out what is happening at the school? To keep communication consistent, we will be using Edsby to share information with families. Parents and Guardians can expect an email next week inviting them to join Edsby for each of their children attending the Virtual School. If you have never used Edsby, you can visit https://www.edsby.com/help/parents/ to view helpful videos to get started.

We are so excited to have your family join our GEVS Galaxy this year, where we are #connectedandlearning!
