Vincent Massey Secondary School
Mustang Chess Champion

Rachel Tao will be representing Canada for girls under 14 at the Word Youth Chess Championships (WYCC) in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates from December 17 to 29, 2013.

Rachel Tao is a Grade 9 student from Vincent Massey Secondary School.  This year is her second time representing Canada in the World Youth Chess Championships.  Rachel started to play chess in Grade 1 and has been a very active and competitive player throughout these years.  In April 2013, Rachel won 1st place in the Ontario Youth Chess Championships in Kitchener Ontario.  In July, Rachel played in the Canadian Youth Chess Championships in Ottawa and finished the 2nd place.

The World Youth Chess Championship takes place once a year in a different country every year.  The top players in each age division from all the participating countries get together to compete for the WYCC titles.  This year the event is hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Chess Federation at the UAE University in Al Ain which is 120 km from Dubai.  Currently there are 1640 players from 95 countries registered to compete in this event.  Please visit the related websites below for more WYCC 2013 information.

It is a great achievement and a global experience for Rachel.  Lately Rachel is working closely with her coach to prepare for this international event.   With that in mind, we are doing fundraising to cover part of the cost.  The goal is to raise $2000.00 for Rachel. The funds will cover flight, travel expenses, tournament fee, FIDE fee, accommodation fee, meal costs, and more.

Thank you so much for your generosity!
