On Monday November 11, 2013, students at Vincent Massey Secondary took
time to remember the many previous and continuing sacrifices made by Canada’s
soldiers in defence of freedom.
Students and teachers worked together
to commemorate this special day by planning junior and senior assemblies, with
the theme of ‘Remembering the Past and
Hoping for the Future’. Concentration was placed on Canada’s further
commitment to present peacekeeping missions, with student speaker Delaney
Brausse sharing her personal experience with her father currently serving in
Afghanistan.
Remembrance Day at Massey serves as
an active reminder to us all, not only of the valuable gift of freedom we
experience on a daily basis, but also of the thanks that we need to give to
those who have sacrificed for us all. In
remembering the past and recognizing the present, we gain the knowledge and
insights necessary for a better future.
A special thank you is extended to
Mr. Garlick and Mr. Trudell for the planning and administration of
commemorative activities.
