At a recent Skills Competition held at St. Clair College, Massey students faired well and took home the bronze medal.
Our team of two students, consisted of Mike Vojvodin and Faaron Belanger. The team objective was to build a dog house according to specifications provided by the college.
Students were judged on their theoretical knowledge along with practical skills and abilities. The teams were tested in the following categories:
· Design and Layout of Building Materials
· Construction and Assembly of Project
· Safe Operation of Hand and Power tools
· Team work
· Project Sketches and working drawings
Students had two hours to design and build the dog house. Projects were then judged by the college instructors followed by a lunch and awards ceremony. The Massey team placed third in the competition.
This was the first time that Massey students entered any sort of skills competition in the Construction category in quite some time and we are looking forward to more competitions in the future.
Special thanks goes out to Quinn Falkner, who also assisted in completing the project adding roofing shingles, trim and paint.
The finished project.
