MUSTANGS FOOTBALL TEAM KICKS OFF THE YEAR WITH A WIN
By: Natalie Cusinato
On Wednesday, September 23, the first Jr. football game of the year was held at Vincent Massey Secondary School, amid a cheering crowd of Massey students. The Massey Mustangs prevailed against the Kennedy Clippers, with a score of 13-6. The Mustangs showed their teamwork, devotion, sportsmanship and single-minded determination, despite having started from behind.
The back field of Massey was packed with students supporting their football team, and the amount of enthusiasm and positive-energy was overwhelming. The Massey football team was as supportive as the crowd, with players on the bench cheering for those on the field. Although there were some minor injuries and penalties during the game, the team did well for their first game. “It was a sloppy win, but it was a win,” said Mr. Banwell. “We need to improve our blocking abilities.”
The team’s defensive lines played very well and impressive touchdowns were made. Various members of the team said they believe they could improve by calming down and playing better offensive man-to-man.
The Massey Mustangs have started their season successfully, and we can expect more triumphant wins to come our way.
