Spirit Day - October 29th

Mustang Families,

I appreciate your continued support as we near closer to the end of October. Our next Spirit Day is on Friday, October 29th, the last Friday before Halloween. Students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character, or wear orange and black.  We will need to reimagine some of our past Halloween practices due to the current COVID-19 situation and recommendations from the WECHU.

Below are guidelines that must be followed if students choose to dress as their favourite book character.

 Costumes:

  • Students must still wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth. Costume masks are not a substitute.
  • Costume masks are not permitted.
  • No blood, gore, or replica weapons.

Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racist Costume Considerations:

 Costumes cannot:

  1. Mock or condescend historically/currently oppressed people and/or appropriate their cultures.
  2. Include face painting for the purpose of matching the skin colour of a specific person or people.
  3. Mock, condescend or appropriate religions or religious beliefs.
  4. Use sacred objects/clothing of others’ religions/cultures.
  5. Caricaturize historically/currently oppressed groups in ways that trivialize them.

Costumes must be respectful and appropriate for school.

Food and treats:

  • We will not be engaging in student-to-student food/candy/treat exchanges.
  • Families sending in food: cupcakes, cakes, rice krispies squares, etc. is not allowed.

Thank you for your support to ensure we have a fun and safe Spirit Day!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Your partner in education,

Mathew Burkhart
