Students at PASS have decided that they want to “Be Part of Something Special.”
Through the generosity of a Speak–Up Grant, Public Alternative Secondary School staff and students have organized some wonderful community outreach projects designed to help those in Windsor and Essex County who could use some good will and support.
The first project has students creating scarves and blankets to donate to homeless shelters, the Downtown Mission, Windsor Youth Centre and other agencies to help keep our less fortunate warm during our frigid winter months.
For our second project, we have teamed up with Laura Spencer from Kick-It Capes, to host a sewing bee at St. Clair College Ford Centre of Excellence (Main Campus). At this event volunteers from all over the county will be involved in crafting super hero capes for the Kick -It Capes campaign.
We hope to create 80+ capes to deliver to children in hospital who suffer from terminal illness. The purpose of these capes is to make the children who are fighting for their lives understand that they are super heroes! Despite their illness, they are fighting the greatest fight of their lives, often doing so with a steely resolve and interminable strength.
Not only do these projects benefit the members of the community that will receive these items, the volunteers also benefit by being involved in citizenship and character building activities. We are so proud of all our volunteers for being involved in both of these fantastic, worthwhile endeavours.
