Change for Model Of Learning

The final opportunity to change a student's learning model for the 2020-21 school year will be available to GECDSB families from Wednesday, December 30th until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th.

A link to an on-line form will be provided on the main page of the GECDSB website, www.publicboard.ca. for that week.

Elementary students may switch from their current learning model to: in-person (at school); remote / virtual (on-line) or remote / paper packages.

The transition point (first day for new learning model) will be Monday, February 1, 2021.

The new learning model will remain in place for that student for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. There will be no further opportunities provided to request a change.

If a student will not be changing, no action will be necessary (do not fill out the on-line form).

Secondary students may switch from their current learning model to: in-person (adapted) or remote / virtual (on-line).

The transition point for high school will be Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

The selected learning model will remain in place for that student for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

Any families / students wishing to make a change to their current learning model must do so by the 4:00 p.m. deadline on January 6, 2021 in order to allow time for the reorganization of staffing and schedules.

In the event that remote learning is extended by the Ministry of Education or the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit then models of learning would not be changed for students.

Please continue to check this website for the latest updates.

If there are any questions, please call your home school between January 4th and 6th.

Technology Questionnaire for Parents

Greetings to our Pelee Island School Community!

As this school year continues to evolve, our school community may need to prepare for the possibility to pivot for possible school closure. Please review all the material below and attached to this email message.  Our school would like to gauge the number of students that would need access to devices should we close.

We would ask that all families in need of technology fill in the questionnaire by next Wednesday, Nov. 25th.  The link is below this message and it will also be posted on Edsby.  We have also included a resource to help parents accessing technology at home and have also provided a link that highlights additional supports.

Another thing that you can do to help ensure your child is ready for this switch, is to practice logging into Edsby and Office 365 with your child's student number and password.  We are not sure what the next few weeks will bring, but should we need to pivot our learning model to online to accommodate a school closure, we want to ensure our students and their families are prepared.

As always we are here to support our entire school community.  At any point in time, you can contact the school and speak to Mr. Galloway or please feel free to speak to Mr. Huggard or Mrs. Adlam.

Below is the link to a parent survey about technology needs. This questionnaire is for students that do not have access to technology in their homes. We encourage one response for each child as in the event of school closures we will endeavour to provide devices for each child in a family.

There is also a resource for our families attached to this email.  This includes a series of short videos that will help our families to access technology.  This information will also be shared on Edsby with our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

Mr. Huggard and Mrs. Adlam

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES CLASSES: Grades 1-8

The Greater Essex County District School Board is pleased to offer our International Languages program for the 2020-21 school year. This year, International Languages classes will be offered virtually (online at home). This program is available to students in Grades 1-8 from across Windsor and Essex County.

Your child does not need a background in a particular language to be able to take advantage of this unique opportunity to acquire a second or third language.  International Languages classes will run on Saturdays from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm throughout the year, beginning in November.

Classes are offered based on student enrolment numbers. Any language may be offered for which there are 25 students and an available instructor. Languages offered in previous years include:

Albanian       Arabic       German       Hindi       Italian       Korean       Mandarin       Nepali           Persian      Punjabi       Serbian   Urdu         Tamil          Spanish

International Languages classes will be presented through Microsoft Teams and will require students to be able to access this online tool at home through an electronic device (computer, laptop, tablet) and access to the internet. As this is a complimentary program, technology will not be provided to families who are participating.

Please use the link below, or our webpage https://www.publicboard.ca/Programs/K-12/International-Languages to register for International Languages Classes this year. The registration deadline is November 2, 2020

For any further inquiries about the program, please contact Mr. David Dawson, International Languages Principal at 519-255-3200, ext. 20203.
