April 12, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may know, French Immersion programs across our district are growing.  In light of this interest, the Greater Essex County District School Board will be expanding French Immersion programming.  The board is introducing a phased in French Immersion program at Central Public School.  To accomplish this, Senior Administration has adjusted the eastern portion of the current Bellewood French Immersion boundary for September 2018.

For September 2018, Central will continue to offer JK-8 English programming as well as a new JK French Immersion program.  Each year thereafter, another grade will be added to the French Immersion program.

It must be noted that this decision was necessary due to the pending over capacity of the student population at Bellewood Public School.  We are at a point where Bellewood will not have the ability to accommodate any more students as it continues to grow.

Effective September 1, 2018, the following boundary adjustment will take place as outlined below:

All JK age students living in the Talbot Trail Public School English catchment area who are registered for JK French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Central Public School.

All JK age students living in the Roseland Public School English catchment area, south of E.C. Row, who are registered for JK French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Central Public School.

All JK age students living in the McWilliam Public School English catchment area, south of E.C. Row, who are registered for JK French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Central Public School.

All JK age students living in the Central Public School English catchment area who are registered for JK French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Central Public School.

All students currently attending Bellewood Public School as of June 2018 may continue to attend Bellewood Public School until graduation, if the home address remains the same.

A Community Information meeting will be held at Central Public School, 700 Norfolk, Windsor, to explain the rationale behind the decision to adjust the Bellewood French Immersion boundary.  This meeting will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.  This Community Information meeting will afford individuals an opportunity to provide their voice and ask any questions they may have with Board Administration present to provide a response.

We appreciate that deciding which school to register your child at is a decision that takes much time and thought.  We look forward to continuing to provide an engaging program for ALL of the students and families at Bellewood Public School and Central Public School, as well as supporting the growth of French Immersion at Central Public School.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Superintendent Todd Awender at 519-255-3200.

Sincerely,

Todd Awender
