A low, glove-side wrist shot off the stick of captain Cody McFarlane ultimately gave the Belle River Nobles the gold medal at the OFSAA Boys A/AA hockey championship in Fort Frances. That was the only goal scored in a shoot-out that decided the championship game against the St. Mary's Crusaders from Hamilton.
Regulation time ended in a 2-2 tie after Colton O'Brien's second goal of the game, with 1:17 left in the final period, tied the score for the Nobles. Goalie Patrick Timpany (right) held off all 5 of St. Mary's shooters in the breakaway competition.
The Nobles entered the tournament as the #4 seed. They defeated the Forest Hill Falcons from Toronto 5-2, St. Thomas Aquinas of Kenora 6-1, Campbellford Flames 4-2 and tied the St. Anne Eagles of Clinton 2-2 in the preliminary round. A 2-1 win over the Holy Cross Raiders from St. Catharines put them into the title game against St. Mary's.
