|Herman Academy - Secondary School is one of 34 high schools in Ontario to receive special funding through an Urban School Grant to provide extra opportunities for students, their families and people in the surrounding community.
There are five key areas that this school initiative addresses: academic achievement, student engagement/leadership, parent and community engagement, non-academic social supports and school safety.
A number of successful programs have already been established, including:
Community partners have also been involved in our program by offering workshops on parenting, suicide and depression and support groups for teens.
- A.S.A.P. - After School Academic Program - Available Monday through Thursday, 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons
- General interest classes including Robotics, Cooking, Yoga, and Dance
- After school and summer music camps
- Spring and summer athletic camps
The final component of our after school program is the Alternative Education Class - Committing to Achieve (CTA). The focus of this program is to help students retrieve missed credits while working at their own pace with the support of a full-time teacher and a Child and Youth Worker. Students must be referred and accepted into this program as spaces are limited.

URBAN AND PRIORITY HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
