On Monday, September 30, 2019, the Jack Miner School Community will wear ORANGE as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters. At Jack Miner Public School we will continue to support reconciliation and honour First Nations history, heritage, and ways of knowing. We also will recognize the harm the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and well being.
The date was chosen because this is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to attend residential schools. It is also an opportunity to set the stage for character education and anti-bullying activities for the coming school year.
It is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
