LDSS DP Course Offerings

Leamington District Secondary School is a Candidate School for the IB Diploma Programme, which takes place in Grades 11 & 12 in Ontario IB Schools. Pending authorization by the International Baccalaureate Organization, we plan to offer courses in all six subject groups starting in the 2019-2020 school year. Students enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme must take one course from each of the six subject groups. Three courses must be taken at the Higher Level (HL) and three at the Standard Level (SL). Higher Level courses extend over three semesters and explore the subject in greater depth compared to Standard Level courses, which extend over two semesters. If two courses are required in one subject group (for example, both Chemistry and Physics are required for a student applying to a Mechanical Engineering university program), students will need to omit the Arts credit. Course offerings are determined by student interest and teacher qualifications. In addition to the six subjects, students pursuing an IB Diploma are required to complete 3 Core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
