Boundary Adjustments

April 12, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may know, French Immersion programs across our district are growing.  In light of this interest, the Greater Essex County District School Board will be expanding French Immersion programming.  The board is introducing a phased in French Immersion program at Marlborough Public School.  To accomplish this, Senior Administration has adjusted the current Giles French Immersion boundary for September 2018.

For September 2018, Marlborough will continue to offer JK-8 English programming as well as a new JK, SK, and Grade 1 French Immersion program.  Each year thereafter, another grade will be added to the French Immersion program.

It must be noted that this decision was necessary due to the over capacity of the student population at Giles Public School.  The current student population of Giles is already over 100 students greater than the total capacity of the future new school.

Effective September 1, 2018, the following boundary adjustment will take place as outlined below:

All JK, SK, Grade 1 age students living in the Brock Public School English catchment area who are registered in JK, SK, or Grade 1 French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Marlborough Public School.

All JK, SK, Grade 1 age students living in the West Gate Public School English catchment area who are registered in JK, SK, or Grade 1 French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Marlborough Public School.

All JK, SK, Grade 1 age students living in the Marlborough Public School English catchment area who are registered in JK, SK, or Grade 1 French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Marlborough Public School.

All JK, SK, Grade 1 age students living in the Northwood Public School English catchment area set out as follows:
NORTH:      Tecumseh Road West
EAST:           South Cameron Boulevard
SOUTH:       Totten Street
WEST:          Huron Church Road
who are registered in JK, SK, or Grade 1 French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Marlborough Public School.

All JK, SK, Grade 1 age students living in the Dougall Public School English catchment area set out as follows:
NORTH:      Riverside Drive West
EAST:           Ouellette Avenue
SOUTH:       Wyandotte Street West
WEST:          CP Rail tracks
who are registered in JK, SK, or Grade 1 French Immersion in September 2018 will now be directed to Marlborough Public School.

The current grade 1 through 7 students attending Giles Public School as of June 2018 from the new boundary area outlined above may continue to attend Giles Public School until graduation, if the home address remains the same.

A Community Information meeting will be held at Marlborough Public School, 3557 Melbourne, Windsor, to explain the rationale behind the decision to adjust the Giles French Immersion boundary.  This meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.  This Community Information meeting will afford individuals an opportunity to provide their voice and ask any questions they may have with Board Administration present to provide a response.

We appreciate that deciding which school to register your child at is a decision that takes much time and thought.  We look forward to continuing to provide an engaging program for ALL of the students and families at Giles Public School and Marlborough Public School, as well as supporting the growth of French Immersion at Marlborough Public School.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Superintendent Todd Awender at 519-255-3200.

Sincerely,
