Ping Pong is a "big hit" in Mr. Kennedy's Grade 8 classroom during the indoor portion of nutrition breaks. Mr. Kennedy said he brought the table-top version to his classroom because kids like it. His intent was to create a classroom environment that his students enjoy being in. A positive, inclusive and engaging classroom culture includes more than the curriculum.
What started as en enjoyable activity for students (and many staff members, as well), has had quite an impact. What we've noticed is that ping pong knows no boundaries. It doesn't matter what language is spoken, age, or role at school. The game produces enjoyment, skills, and confidence. Some of our students in Mr. Wideen's ESL class have been inspired to write a persuasive letter to get a real ping pong table or have a ping pong team!
We're proud of our staff and students. Go Knights!
