Read- A- Thon:
Prince Edward Students Excited For Fundraiser
When Prince Edward Students decide to do something, they put their heart and soul into it and Prince Edward’s annual fundraiser is no different.
This year, students will participate in an all-day Literacy themed Read- A- Thon taking place on October 31st, 2013.
During the past week, students have been decorating their classrooms to celebrate their favorite authors. On Thursday, the day of the Read-A-Thon, students plan to dress like their favourite literary character, read a variety of genres of books and have various guest readers visiting their classrooms. Scheduled guest speakers include members of Men’s Lancer Basketball team, Windsor Star Staff, members of the Spitfires Hockey team and other community volunteers.
“It is very exciting to see how invested and motivated the students are around the theme of our Read-A-Thon. The level of interest and the actual enthusiasm that students have for literature is really heartening,” says Ruth Flynn, a Prince Edward Fundraising Committee member and Teacher Librarian at Prince Edward. “The students know authors, they know genres and they know what piques their reading curiosity,” Flynn adds.
“Here at Prince Edward we go big or go home,” says Hussein Chouman, a
Grade 8 Prince Edward student, who was helping to decorate his classroom. “You can tell the school really put an effort into this fundraiser- we put our heart and soul into it.”
