Pacers Square Off Against Police
Students Team Up with Windsor Police to Raise Money for Charity
The Prince Edward Pacer Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams will join together to play members of the Windsor Police Services on Thursday, May 22nd at 4:30 P.M. at the Giles Campus French Immersion Public School gymnasium.
The fundraiser is an annual event to raise money for Windsor and Essex County charities. The Pacer Vs Police Fundraiser started in 2010 with the goal of building relationships within the community and teaching students that they can make a difference within society. The event was the brainchild of Katie Cox, a teacher at Prince Edward School.  A committee consisting of Prince Edward staff and student volunteers work along with Windsor Police Services to organize this popular event.  This year, all proceeds from the fundraiser are being donated to the Windsor Essex Humane Society and the Canadian Cancer Society.
“It doesn’t matter which team wins... we are all winners.  In the end, we will have raised money for two awesome charities,” says Hussein Chouman, a Pacer basketball team member.
The Pacers Vs Police fundraiser promises to be full of entertainment.  As guests enter the auditorium, they will hear songs being sung by the Prince Edward Choir and a lively half time show will be performed by Prince Edward’s Dance Team.  Hotdogs, snacks and baked goods will also be sold.
“Our students look forward to this event each year.  It is a wonderful way to build relationships within our community and teach the value of giving back to others,” says Stacey Uttley, Prince Edward Teacher and Pacer Vs Police committee member.  “We have 600 tickets to sell and we hope to fill the gymnasium,” Uttley adds.
Pacers Vs Police tickets are $3 and can be purchased in advance at Prince Edward Public School or at Giles Campus French Immersion School starting at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 22nd.
