Are you ready for Reaching Ahead this summer? Check out some commonly-asked questions so you can get ready for the first day.
Q: What do I bring to school on the first day?
A: Bring a binder, paper, and pens/pencils on the first day. There will be two breaks in the morning so you should also plan to bring snacks or drinks to enjoy during the breaks. On the first day, your teacher will give you the paperwork you need to get started.
Q: Which school am I going to?
You are registered at the high school you selected in Career Cruising or on your application unless someone contacted you about moving to another location. There are no Reaching Ahead sections running this summer at Essex DHS, General Amherst, Leamington, Tecumseh Vista, Western, and Westview.
Please note that all students who chose Riverside Secondary School will be at Hetherington Elementary, and students who chose Belle River High School will be at Belle River Public School (because of construction). If you're not sure, email the program facilitator: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: How will I find the room in the school?
A: There will be signs posted in the main entrance of the school. Some of the rooms are still being decided, so look for the Reaching Ahead signs.
Q: Can I do anything else before the first day?
A: If you are a student from the Greater Essex school board, be sure you know your Office365 login and password. If you don't remember, it can be reset on the first day. If you are not a student from the Greater Essex board, you will receive login information on the first day.
Reaching Ahead Registration: April 2019 - May 31 , 2019
The Greater Essex County District School Board is offering a full-credit course for students who are entering grade nine in September 2019.
This course will teach students important and practical skills that will be helpful as they begin secondary school in the fall. Students will learn in the classroom each day, and also complete work online, at home, at their own pace.
This learning experience will also provide students with the opportunity to make new friends, feel more comfortable about entering high school, learn about programs and pathways that are offered, and begin earning community service volunteer hours required for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
