For any grade 8 student looking to develop their artistic skills, your artistic journey begins here, with WCCA.
WCCA is a secondary school enriched arts program for the most passionate, dedicated and promising student artists in Windsor Essex County. WCCA provides access and opportunities in 9 distinct art disciplines through extremely experienced and gifted educators. WCCA is the only program of its kind in the Region and permits secondary school students to immerse themselves in the art forms of their choosing alongside other motivated, skilled and passionate students. The students collaborate and tread through the creative process in order to discover solutions, solve problems, and create new answers and results. If it's performing art or still art, they are all creative arts and WCCA provides 4 years of extended artistic growth, unlike any other secondary school. Not only do students graduate with 4 years of developing in their art and being exposed to countless artistic opportunities, they are among the most academically successful students in our city.
WCCA as the bridge between elementary school and post secondary opportunities is the most focused art pathway available. We exist to allow the skills and tools Art courses provide, to shape and guide our students to the destination they choose, regardless if it's in an art field or not (business, law, healthcare, education, management, etc.); all careers require critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, work ethic, passion, dedication, and creativity. WCCA simply awakens those skills.
WCCA is a regional, pre-professional arts training center that offers secondary students intensive instruction in Media Arts, Dance (Jazz, Modern, and Ballet), Music (Instrumental, Strings, Guitar, Piano, and Concert Band), Drama (Musical Theatre, Directing, Improvisation, Acting and Production), Visual Arts (Painting, Drawing, Print-Making and Sculpting), and Vocal Music (Classical, Jazz, and Pop) all while maintaining simultaneous academic excellence.
- WCCA is a magnet secondary arts program that enables any student from any school to attend.
- WCCA was founded in 1989 by a diverse coalition of artists, educators, business leaders, and community activists who saw the need for an institution devoted to our region’s burgeoning young talent.
- WCCA’s track record over the past decade speaks for itself: every year a remarkable 95 – 98% of WCCA graduates go on to University, College or Conservatory programs across North America and Europe.
Furthermore, approximately 80% of WCCA students receive scholarships to pursue such higher education.
The key to WCCA’s success is the ethic of discipline and responsibility it instills in students, which prepares them for productive adult lives whether or not they choose to pursue arts careers.
Admission to WCCA’s tuition-free programs is by audition only (there is a nominal audition fee). Our annual application process and auditions take place each fall for the following school year. Students can only apply for full-day instructional opportunities. (They must be willing to attend Walkerville Secondary School full time).
