The Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts was established in 1989 as a place to give students, gifted in the arts; the opportunity to work in an intense atmosphere, with students of equal calibre and with the same interests and to learn from a staff of people with a real expertise in each area.
Originally, the program was called the "Windsor Centre for the Creative Arts" because the intention was to have students bring this arts enrichment back to their home school but the program has grown so much that the majority of students call Walkerville their home school and the name has been changed to "Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts".
Courses are offered in Piano, Vocal, Band, Guitar, Drama, Dance (Jazz, Modern, and Ballet), Visual Arts (Painting, Print-Making, Sculpturing, and Drawing), and Media Arts.
Courses are offered in piano, vocal, band, guitar, drama, dance (ballet, jazz, and modern), visual arts (painting, printmaking, sculpture, drawing) and media arts. Students are auditioned in December of the previous school year for entry into the program.
The program continues to grow in both numbers and reputation as our students present work of the highest standard in our Windsor-Essex community and beyond. Many of our students have gone on to careers in the arts but others have put their training to good use in many other careers.
