WCCA Presents Li'l Abner

Actors rehearsing scene.jpegThe Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts and Walkerville Collegiate Institute are thrilled to present the hilarious musical comedy Li'l Abner in 2017

Performances will run  May 5, 6, 11, 12 & 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on May 7th, all at the WCI auditorium.

Based on Al Capp's brilliant satirical comic strip (1934-77), Li'l Abner is a wild and wacky corn-ball comedy about the little backwater burg of Dogpatch USA. It's home to a host of zany characters - Moonbeam McSwine, Earthquake McGoon, Evil Eye Fleagle, Marryin' Sam and of course Li'l Abner Yokum, his parents Mammy and Pappy Yokum and lovely Daisy Mae Scragg.

The musical, adapted by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank with music by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer, tells of a fateful Sadie Hawkins Day race, and atomic bomb test and a miracle tonic that makes every man perfect.

Star of TV's Degrassi: the Next Class, Dante Scott plays the title role with Karly Green as Daisy Mae and Nick Palozzolo in the role of Marryin' Sam.

The musical is directed by Jeff Marontate. Amanda Sands is the music director and choreography by Roger Wellington and Angel Vasiliadis. Vocal Direction is by Dr. Patti Hopper.
