School history

M.S. Hetherington Public School is located in the city of Windsor, Ontario and is situated
a few blocks from the Detroit River. M.S. Hetherington School was built in 1959 and
named after Melvin Sloan Hetherington, who had been principal in what was then the
town of Riverside. Since then, two additions have been built and the school now has
eighteen classrooms, two portables, a gym and a library.

Our present population of approximately 430 students, from Junior Kindergarten to
Grade 8, includes 2 Special Education classes. The high quality of the learning
environment which exists at Hetherington is made possible by the combined efforts of
staff, students, parents and our community. Our students both reflect and benefit from
the multicultural diversity of our neighbourhood and our city.

M.S. Hetherington School is a dynamic school to work and learn. Our innovative approach to learning through our robotics program and Maker Space classes provide a unique opportunity for students. We are continually promoting student learning and building for the future. We offer a wide range of activities for our students, from chess club, sport teams, cooking club, robotics club, to band and choir.

We are a very active school and continue to emphasize the academic structure for our
students tomorrow as we strive to build tomorrow together.
