Whether due to illness, a medical appointment or other important events, there are times when students will need to be away from school.
Report an absence
If a student is going to be late or absent, please notify the school prior to the start of the classes by entering it in the online Edsby system, or calling 519-254-6475 and pressing "1" for attendance. Please leave a detailed message spelling the child's name, if there is no answer.
Leaving school during the day
If a student needs to leave school during the school day, the Attendance Office must notified with an Edsby entry, signed note, or phone call from home before leaving the building.
There are specific attendance procedures that must be completed prior to a student leaving the school, therefore it is not always possible to process an immediate dismissal and student exit may be delayed. Parents and Guardians providing the information ahead of the exit time will expedite the process, ensure accuracy, and also avoid unnecessary classroom disruptions.
Remote learning absence
We still take attendance during remote learning. If a student is not online and you have not reported their absence, you will receive a call from the school, inquiring about the absence.
COVID-19 self-assessment and testing
**As of March 21, 2022 - Students do not have to complete the self-assessment every day. Students still need to self-monitor and not come to school if they are feeling unwell.
(Prior to March 21, 2022 - All students must complete the GECDSB Self-Assessment Tool before attending school each day. You can also view how to use the self-assessment tool on the GECDSB YouTube channel.)
