Family Studies @ BRDHS
Family Studies at Belle River District High School offers students practical courses to gain skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. We offer Food and Nutrition in Grade 10, Personal Life Management in Grade 12 and Nutrition and Health in Grade 12.
Our Foods Room kitchens provide the opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning with both baking and cooking. Food demonstrations give students an understanding of specific food preparation techniques and skills which will be used to make various recipes. Students also make connections with course work, lab work and personal cooking which can extend to work in the food industry and at home cooking.
In Personal Life Management, students learn independent life skills including budgeting, how to manage a household, personal, legal and financial responsibilities and occupational skills. Through a combination of hands-on and differentiated instruction, students experience an understanding of the transition into adulthood through practical experiences.
