Guidance Department Overview

Guidance

Our Students Matter

In high school, students focus on credit accumulation with the goal of earning their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and preparing to move onto the next steps on a career and life path. Our hope for each of our Noble students is that they benefit from an excellent academic experience, that they make positive connections and enjoy their time while in high school.

What is the key to ensure that students attain these goals? Researchers feel that “Mattering “is an important key to student success in high school. They have also found that if students feel that they matter, they have greater self-esteem, make more positive choices within their schooling, have better attendance, and are more engaged in their learning. This leads to academic success and students who can strive for excellence and follow their dreams.

Throughout these high school years, students experience physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. When these changes cause stressors, we want our students to know that we are here to support them and that their experiences truly matter to us.

Guidance Counsellors

Belle River District High School is fortunate to have two very experienced Guidance Counsellors whose goal is to assist every student and to ensure their success while at BRDHS. In today’s world we realize that students face many challenges and difficult choices as they prepare for their future. It is the responsibility of the Guidance Counsellors, in conjunction with families, teacher, and the entire student success team and the community, to help our Noble students meet these challenges and make good choices.

Services through Guidance may include individual counselling, individual academic planning, development of positive self-help strategies, and academic support. Guidance Counsellors assist students in exploring their aptitudes, strengths, and interest through the setting of educational goals. Students are provided with opportunities for academic planning and career exploration.

Guidance Counsellors, Child Youth Worker, Social Worker, Mental Health and Addictions Nurse, Learning Support Teachers, Student Success Teacher, Administration: a whole network of people to support our Students!

The entire Noble Team works with all students to support their social, emotional, behavioural, and intellectual development. The team is highly active in the development, promotion and implementation of programs that support a positive, safe learning environment. We believe that when our students feel safe, accepted, and valued they, will be able to reach their full potential. After all, Nobles Take Care of Each Other!
