At Walkerville Collegiate Institute, our academic awards reflect the high standards we set for student achievement. These distinctions are more than just accolades—they represent our commitment to academic integrity, dedication, and personal growth. By recognizing students who meet rigorous criteria, we honour a long-standing tradition of excellence that has defined our school’s history. To qualify for academic awards, students must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 9 & 10 students must be enrolled in 8 full-day, daytime classes during the school year.
→ No spares allowed - Grade 11 students must be enrolled in 8 full-day, daytime classes.
→ One spare is permitted only if: - A) The student has earned at least 16 credits in Grades 9 & 10
- B) The student has 8 full daytime credits scheduled in their current timetable
- Students with modified timetables, spares not meeting the above criteria, or night school courses used to meet the 4-credit requirement are not eligible for academic distinction awards.

- Honour Roll
→ Awarded to students who achieve a cumulative average of 80% or higher - Principal’s Roll
→ Awarded to students who achieve a cumulative average of 90% or higher - Top Tartan Award
→ Presented to the student in each grade (9, 10, and 11) with the highest overall average
❓ Academic Awards – FAQs
Q: What counts as a “full daytime class”?
A full daytime class is a regularly scheduled course that runs during the standard school day and grants a full credit. This includes Dual Credit and eLearning courses.
Q: Are students in Grade 12 eligible for these awards?
No. These awards are specifically for students in Grades 9, 10, and 11. Grade 12 students are recognized through graduation awards and scholarships.
Q: What if I switch to a modified timetable mid-year?
If your timetable changes and no longer meets the full-time requirement, you will not be eligible for academic awards for that school year.
