Welcome to a new school year at Walkerville Collegiate Institute!
I hope that you and your family enjoyed a restful and enjoyable summer. As we begin another exciting year, I am filled with optimism about the opportunities ahead for our students, staff, and school community. At Walkerville, we are proud of our tradition of excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and many other opportunities, we look forward to building upon that tradition together.
This year, our school focus will center on inclusion, growth, achievement, and engagement.
At Walkerville, we believe that every student deserves to feel valued and respected. We remain committed to creating a school environment where all students experience a sense of belonging and where diversity is celebrated as one of our greatest strengths.
We are also focused on helping every student achieve meaningful academic growth. This includes strengthening literacy and numeracy skills and improving student outcomes on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) and EQAO assessments. Our staff have been working collaboratively to enhance instructional practices and provide targeted supports.
An important component of student success is daily attendance. Research consistently shows that regular attendance has a significant impact on academic achievement, graduation rates, and student well-being. We ask for your partnership in reinforcing the importance of attending school every day, arriving on time, and being engaged in learning. The Ministry of Education has also introduced new protocol to help improve attendance with a portion of their final grade that includes good attendance.
On behalf of the entire staff at Walkerville Collegiate Institute, I would like to thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Your support plays a vital role in helping students achieve their goals and reach their full potential. We are excited to welcome students back to our classrooms and hallways and look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, creativity, achievement, and memorable experiences.
