Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for Kindergarten?
To register your child for Kindergarten, the following requirements must be met:

Age Requirements for Registration:

  • To register for Junior Kindergarten, your child must be 4 years old by December 31 in the current year
  • To register for Senior Kindergarten, your child must be 5 years old by December 31 in the current year

All Kindergarten students must register at their designated home school for the Kindergarten program. Please use the school locator tool on our website to find your home school if you have not already registered.

How do you apply for schools out of my area?
For families who are interested in applying for a school that is not designated as your child’s home school, they will need to begin a conversation with the home school first. There is an out of area request process if you still want to explore this option, but we recommend that you discuss the process with your registered home school. Please know that it is often best for students to attend their home school, so they are building relationships within their own community.
Is there an option to enroll my child for only 3 days a week?
If there are special accommodations that need to be supported, the home school can work alongside the family to understand the current needs and develop a plan that will work best for your child and family.
Will additional information be provided after I register my child? Or will families receive everything on the first day of school in September?
After families register their child for Kindergarten at the GECDSB, the home school will provide school specific information to further support children and families during their transition to Kindergarten. Please connect with your child’s home school if you have additional questions about what to expect for your child on the first day in September.  All students begin on the same day as students in grades 1 to 8.
How do families register their child for busing?

Bussing eligibility is determined by Windsor-Essex Student Transportation Services (WESTS). Please call the main office of your school to determine eligibility for bussing. All bus routing information will be provided to eligible families closer to September and will be communicated directly.

Families can also visit the BUSKIDS website to learn more about the First Ride Program.
