Educators The September 3, 2026 professional learning session will support staff in strengthening their understanding and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to improve outcomes for students with special education needs. The learning will focus on the provincial requirements for IEP development and implementation, including student strengths and needs, accommodations, modifications, alternative expectations, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and monitoring student progress. Staff will also deepen their understanding of developing clear and measurable learning goals and expectations that support assessment, evaluation, and student achievement. Participants will engage in guided learning, collaborative discussions, and practical application activities focused on developing, implementing, updating, and monitoring IEPs in classroom practice. Learning will also address effective consultation and communication with families, the connection between IEP implementation and student achievement, and the role of educators within the Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) process. Resources will include Ministry policy and guidance documents, board procedures, case studies, exemplars, and implementation tools designed to promote consistency, clarity, and effective special education programming across schools.
Staff will complete Brightspace Training modules.
Educational Support Staff Elementary and Secondary Educational Support Staff (ESS) will come together for an engaging day of professional learning focused on enhancing staff knowledge and skills while exploring topics that support student well-being. All ESS staff will participate in a half-day BMS recertification session. During the remainder of the day, staff will deepen their understanding of BMS theory with a focus on de-escalation strategies, explore the role of Educational Support Staff in collaboration with members of the Human Resources Department, and engage in learning with Landa Fox on independence and healthy practices for students. ESS staff will receive additional information regarding the sessions and the itinerary for the day.This session will take place at the Ciociaro Club. PSSP Staff from the Psychologist team, Speech and Language team, Behaviour Team, Social Work team and the Open Minds team, Create Your Future Advisors will receive additional information from their supervisors regarding expectations for the day. |
