Dear students and families,
Somehow, we have already arrived at the beginning of another school year. I hope that each of you had a relaxing summer break and are refreshed and ready for another year of learning.
Each summer, I take time to reflect on what we will prioritize in the year ahead. As always, we remain focused on providing a fulfilling learning experience for all students, equitable and inclusive education, and the mental health and well-being of all students, families, and staff.
In addition, this year I would ask you to join me in focusing on togetherness and unity. I sincerely believe that we are strongest when we work together as a collective. This is as true for me and my colleagues as it is for you, your peers, and the staff at your schools.
Working together with common goals can only result in the best possible outcomes for you, our students and families. That is and always will be our highest priority at the Greater Essex County District School Board.
Of course, it is one thing to say that we will focus on unity, but it is another to put it into practice. We can accomplish this by showing up for one another consistently, even in the smallest of ways. Say good morning, hold the door, include someone who is feeling left out, or help someone who is struggling in class.
As I shared in my end-of-year address, we see your efforts to show up for yourselves and for one another. My work will always be worthwhile knowing it supports your meaningful and bright futures.
I wish you a fantastic year ahead. Learn lots and enjoy each moment.
Yours in positivity,
Vicki Houston
