A Focus on Strategies to Support Positive Behaviour The Why Behind the Goal: Building Meaningful Goals Through ABA Assessment Tools This professional development session explores how ABA-based assessment tools can help educators build functional, meaningful, and individualized goals for students with developmental disabilities and complex learning needs. Participants will learn about commonly used assessment frameworks including the VB-MAPP, Preschool Life Skills, AFLS, and Essential for Living, and how these tools can guide the selection of goals that improve independence, social participation, safety, and quality of life. Through practical examples and a case study, the session emphasizes shifting from purely academic targets to real-world functional skills that support student autonomy, self-determination, and long-term success across school, home, and community settings. |
