Elementary

Date/Time: November 17th, 2023 (Half Day)

Participants: Elementary Teachers 

Learning Delivery: In-Person

Content/Resources/Activities (Including Presenters): On November 17th, 2023, teachers will engage in a half-day of math learning centered around a common understanding of the Ministry’s priorities in mathematics. Teachers will then be given time to investigate the Ministry document entitled “High-Impact Instructional Practices.” They will also have time to explore two of the board’s math resources (Mathology, MathUp, MATHia, Brainingcamp or Knowledgehook).

Date/Time: November 17th, 2023 (Half Day)

Participants: Elementary Grade 1-3 Social Studies

Learning Delivery: Virtual

Content/Resources/Activities (Including Presenters): 

Teachers of students in Grade 1-3 will have the opportunity to learn about the revised social studies curriculum which includes topics such as:  

  • Traditional Indigenous and treaty territory/territories; 

  • The Impact of residential schools; 

  • Reclamation and revitalization of traditions, customs, teachings and celebration amongst First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals and communities; and,  

  • Interrelationship between the land and the people, including land use, employment, and natural environments, in First Nations communities and/or Métis regions in Ontario.

Date/Time: November 17th, 2023 (Half Day)

Participants: Elementary Grade 6 Social Studies

Learning Delivery: In-Person

Content/Resources/Activities (Including Presenters): Teachers will learn about the revisions to the Social Studies Curriculum. Teachers will receive professional development in trauma-informed teaching practices and the Holocaust to support curriculum implementation, build teacher content knowledge, and facilitate responsive instruction.

Secondary

Date/Time: November 17th, 2023 (Half Day)

Participants: Secondary Teachers 

Learning Delivery: In-Person

Content/Resources/Activities (Including Presenters): We are excited to announce the Subject-Specific PD Day. This will once again bring together Secondary teachers for a morning of learning on Friday, November 17th, 2023.  Grade 9-12 educators to take on the role of Teacher-Presenters in certain subject areas.  These areas are: Math, English/Library, French, Canadian and World Studies, Science, Business and Computer Science, FNMI, Technological Studies, and Social Sciences/Humanities

Support Staff

Date/Time: November 17th, 2023 (Half Day)

Participants: Elementary and Secondary Support Staff

Learning Delivery: 

Content/Resources/Activities (Including Presenters): Educational Support Staff will engage in a variety of in person and virtual learning on Trauma Informed Training, Childhood Depression, Canadian Hearing Society and Boom Card Software presentations that support programming for students. GAINS Educators will have the opportunity to come together to collaborate on programming. Time will also be dedicated to develop programming for students.
