This morning, the Greater Essex County District School Board proudly joined staff, students, and community partners to raise the Pride flag in celebration of the beginning of Pride Month. The flag will fly throughout June at all GECDSB schools and facilities.
The Pride flag is a powerful symbol of inclusion, acceptance, and our ongoing commitment to equity in education. Each year, we are humbled and inspired by the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and allies. We are grateful for their continued support and remain dedicated to uplifting and amplifying those voices.
Thank you to Run for Rocky Legacy Project-Windsor-Essex Ontario, Trans Wellness Ontario, Windsor-Essex Pride Fest and students from Walkerville Collegiate for sharing their inspiring and crucial messages.
As Director Houston stated in her speech, “We raise this flag as a public affirmation: That there is no place for hate in our schools. That diversity strengthens us. And that equity is not an add-on – it is foundational to learning, to leadership, and to community.”
Flying the Pride flag is not just a gesture — it is a promise to create spaces of dignity, safety, and care, where all students feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
Happy Pride Month!
