Grade 8 to Grade 9 Out of District Process
How to apply
The online application for Grade 8 students wishing to attend a GECDSB Secondary School outside of their designated boundary will be open from January 5 to January 16, 2026.
- Students can access the Out of District Information Flyer from their Grade 8 teacher, on Edsby or from their elementary school office.
- Parents/guardians must complete the online application during the open window.
- Only one application may be submitted per student for one secondary school.
- Vincent Massey Secondary School is a closed boundary school. Applications for out of district placement at Massey will not be accepted.
- Students currently enrolled in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program will be placed at their designated secondary school. Out of District applications will not be available for these students.
All applications must be submitted by January 16, 2026. If you have any questions, please contact your school office for assistance.
When am I not required to apply?
If you are accepted to one of the following secondary schools, you do not need to complete the Grade 8 to Grade 9 out of district application:
- Enriched Program at Riverside and Vincent Massey
- eSTEAM at Tecumseh Vista Academy
- WCCA Walkerville Collegiate
Out of District Process for Current Grades 9-11 Students
Application Period:
Monday, January 19 to Friday, January 30, 2026
- Students, parents, or guardians must complete the online registration form.
- Families should contact the secondary school they wish to transfer to and arrange an appointment with the administration.
- Students must obtain a transfer package from their current secondary school. A parent or guardian's signature is required for all students under eighteen (18).
Important Terms to Review
- Transfers are generally allowed but may be restricted based on individual school enrollment capacity.
- This procedure does NOT apply to students entering MAPS, STEPS, or ESL/ELD programs. These students are placed.
- Transportation will NOT be provided for students transferring out of their home district.
- Vincent Massey Secondary School does NOT accept out-of-district transfers. Proof of residency will be required for all applications.
- Acceptance at the requested school indicates a commitment to attend for the 2026–2027 school year.
