Safe Schools

The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) is committed to providing safe learning, teaching and work environments for students, staff and community members. Safe schools promote responsibility, respect, civility and academic excellence whether you're on school or Board property, riding a school bus or at a bus stop, school event or activity.

We expect all members of the school community to follow these requirements as well as those outlined in the Education Act. This applies to:

  • Students
  • Parents or guardians
  • Teachers
  • School staff
  • Volunteers
  • Visitors

Suspensions and expulsions

If a student's behaviour leads to the creation of an unsafe environment for other students or staff, it may result in suspension or expulsion. Contact your student's school for more information on suspension and expulsion guidelines.

Compass Program for expelled students

The Compass Program supports the academic and non-academic needs of students who have been expelled. Successful students who complete the program will be able to return to a community school.

Safe Arrivals Program

Each elementary school in GECDSB has a Safe Arrivals Program along with attendance procedures to make sure all students arrive safely at school. Review our Safe Arrivals Program on our policies and regulations page.
