Microsoft Office

To support students with their schoolwork and improve their educational experience, the Greater Essex County District School Board (GEDCSB) provides free Microsoft Office 365 accounts to all students.

Log in to your Office 365 account

You can log into your Office 365 account using your GECDSB login and password. You can access your account at any time, through any browser and on any device that is connected to the internet.

iOS

If you have iOS product (i.e. iPhone, iPad, or iPod) you must download Microsoft Office by downloading each Microsoft product app separately. This includes:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft OneNote
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneDrive
  • Outlook

To download a Microsoft product app, you must:

  1. Search Office 365 on the App Store
  2. Select the Microsoft Product app you want to download
  3. Once downloaded, open the app and you should be prompted to sign in
  4. Enter your GECDSB email
  5. In the new window, re-enter your GECDSB email and password
  6. Click “Sign In”

The app will now be activated with your Office 365 account. Repeat steps one through six to download the rest of the Microsoft product apps.

Mac and PC

If you are a Mac or PC user, you can download the Microsoft Office 365 by:

  1. Logging in to your Microsoft Office 365 account
  2. Sign in using your GECDSB email and password
  3. Once logged in, select the “Install Office” button

Please note, if you do not find the button, you can click on the gear icon and select “Office 365” under your App Settings. Then click “Software” and then the “Install” button.

  1. Open your Downloads folder on your Mac
  2. Click on the downloaded file to open a new window
  3. Click on the folder in the middle of the new window to start the installation
  4. Follow the instructions and wait for the install to finish
  5. Once the install is complete, sign in to your Microsoft Office 365 account and you will have access to all the features in Microsoft Office.

Licence capacity

You can only use your Microsoft account licence on ten computers at a time. Smartphone devices do not count towards this total. You can remove a licence from one computer and apply it to another.

Accepted Windows OS for PC

Please note Microsoft supports Windows 8.1 and 10. For the best experience, we encourage our students to use the latest version of Windows OS available.
