Admission requirements

Admission for enriched courses requires:

  • Applications to be completed by the deadline to be considered for the following academic year
  • Admission to be decided by the Principal at Vincent Massey Secondary School (based on the available capacity of existing courses)
  • Students to be enrolled in at least two of the four enrichment courses offered in Grade 9

Who can be accepted?

Massey Secondary School welcomes students to their enriched programs from Out of District if students are approved by the Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC)*.

* The Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC) considers whether students meet the board criteria as exceptional pupils. This committee will recommend the type of classroom setting to meet their educational needs.

If a student is not granted IPRC, there is still opportunity to be considered. Students can provide a well written application that speaks to academic achievement and social awareness. Please ensure to include supporting documentation:

  • Supporting data (C.A.T. scores, EQAO, plus report card evidence)
  • Consultation with the Grade 8 teacher
  • Elementary Report sent from their Principal
  • Support and approval from their family

Expectations once enrolled

If a student is enrolled in enrichment courses, they must:

  • Be enrolled and successful in at least two enriched courses (or they will be required to return to their neighbourhood secondary school)
  • Receive an annual review of their progress before being selected for the next academic year
  • Find their own transportation to and from the secondary school

Please note siblings of enrolled students must qualify on their own to attend.
